I Totally Get It, Katy Perry!

I might not be alive after this blog. Dun..dun..doonnnne.

A few years ago, I got to be my brother's seventh choice of who to bring with him down to Jekyll Island to receive a Person of the Year Award.  I was thrilled that his first six choices didn't work out and I could go on a mini-vacation with him and somewhere new.

The trip was quick, but I was so thankful that memories were created. Some monumental experiences and milestones happened during that trip for my brother's future career that are personal and I'll keep private, but I was thrilled to see his journey continue to unfold.

We were about 3 hours away from home when a song came on the radio. Before I could make out what song it was, my brother says "I love this song". It dawned on me that it was a Katy Perry song so I wasn't sure if he was joking or being serious. He turned up the volume and proceeded to sing every single word.

Later on I revisited the song, but this time equipped with lyrics.

Firework
By Katy Perry

Do you ever feel like a plastic bag drifting through the wind, wanting to start again?
Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin, like a house of cards, one blow from caving in?
Do you ever feel already buried deep, six feet under scream but no one seems to hear a thing?
Do you know that there's still a chance for you, cause there's a spark in you.
You just gotta ignite the light, and let it shine. Just own the night like the Fourth of July.

Then Katy tells us that "Baby you're a firework" which I love, but what I love more than that is where she begs us to "come on show 'em what you're worth" and "come on let your colors burst". Then there's this really good part "You don't have to feel like a waste of space, you're original, cannot be replaced. If you only knew what the future holds, after a hurricane comes a rainbow."

Pop songs  aren't always my thing (unless it's Britney B*!%*), but this song's lyrics resonated with me like WHOAH! I have definitely felt like I'm just drifting through life. I have definitely felt like I wish I could start over. I have definitely tried to be strong but felt tired and weak. The friendly anthem reminded me that even Candy Land lovin', millionaire, adored by fans across the world Katy Perry has felt insignificant, lost, weak and confused. The good stuff is when she reminds us that we are beautifully unique, completely significant and equipped to be a soaring, noisy gorgeously adored firework.

Happy 4th of July!
