Time Is On Your Side

One of the biggest areas that I need to improve on in my life is taking time out for people. I get so bogged down with my commute, work hours, getting to the gym, and getting a full nights rest that far too often I put those things on a higher priority than the really good things in life. You know, the really good things in life like living or sharing moments with others.

I know the reason why I don't take time for others is that I don't prioritize or discipline myself. It's easier to complain about how busy I am or think about how my life is going to get out of sync for a day. One day. One day of my life will be out of whack for a lifetime of memories.

My incredible friend Ali got me a ticket to the VMAs last year for my birthday. The crazy thing is that I was out of vacation days so we literally drove up to New York in the morning, got ready at my friend Ryan's house, went to the VMAs and then drove back to VA immediately after the show was over. I went to work on 2 hours of sleep. Mind you this was last year so don't roll your eyes too far back because that puts me in my 30s, not teen or twenty-somethings. The road trip time was epic, seeing Miley twerk in real life was haunting, having conversations that were fueled by lack of sleep and red bulls were priceless. She took time for me, she sacrificed some sleep for a lifetime of memories.

We have hours for Game of Thrones, Candy Crush, internet stalking, YouTube trolling, Buzzfeed reading, rearranging our closet and all other guilty pleasures that we are missing out on creating our own funny or interesting moments.

Speaking of BuzzFeed, I found this inspiring article about what people regret when they are old. Here are a few of my favorites and here is the link http://www.buzzfeed.com/mikespohr/37-things-youll-regret-when-youre-old

1. Not Traveling When You Had The Chance
2. Not Learning Another Language
3. Staying In A Bad Relationship
4. Missing The Chance To See Your Favorite Musician
5. Being Scared to Do Things
6. Not Quitting A Terrible Job
7. Being Afraid To Say I Love You
8. Supporting Others Dreams Over Your Own
9. Holding Grudges
10. Not Standing Up For Yourself

I'm not quite sure how this BuzzFeed list and my time vent flow together, but I hope it makes sense and I hope that it makes a difference.

Happy Sunday!

Daily Challenge:
Prioritize time for others (and for yourself). Whether it is scheduling a FaceTime date with a  friend, writing a handwritten card for someone special, placing a call instead of sending a text, baking something and telling a neighbor to come over, planning a girl's trip (even if it's a year from now when all your friends are done breast feeding), going to happy hour, taking a fun class with friends, or sharing a bottle of wine on your back deck; making time will make you happier and more fulfilled than any episode of The Real Housewives of Wherever.

Music:
Since it's Sunday, I figured this song sounded a little churchie
Amos Lee - Street Corner Preacher http://youtu.be/L-dd150r5lU
Armin van Buuren - This Is What It Feels Like http://youtu.be/BR_DFMUzX4E

  1. I loved this one... it sounds like you were writing this because you found a way to listen to the random chatter in my head. =) I'm so glad you did.
